Satya-Franche & Ma Kirtan is a New York based ensemble of Bhakta (the yoga of devotion) musicians who gather to lead the practice of NamaSanKirtanam which is call and response repetition of the names of the Supreme Being. Chanting is a very powerful form of meditation using sound as it's anchor; through chanting these names, we are able to quiet the mind and open the heart. Satya began her singing career early as a child in Montreal. She holds two degrees in music and has worked extensively both in live performance and in the studio. Her kirtan journey began in 2006 when she formed Ma Kirtan, inspired by the feminine and guided by the divine play of her guru, Sri Neem Maharaj. Satya-Franche draws her no holds barred style of leading from the influences of the Western kirtan wallahs as well as her experiences of kirtan in India. She incorporates her vocal skills with a sense of enthusiasm, and a clear love of the practice, that today makes her a popular chant leader.
